I think relationships are built on honesty. I will always be honest with my soon to be son or daughter and with those in our lives. They will know as much about you as you wish to share.
I always thought I would get married and start a family at some point. Building my family through adoption was part of that plan. I have had a couple of relationships that were on that track but did not get to the finish line.

I will encourage my child to build relationships with friends, to make friends and do things with them. Have sleep overs, invite friends with us for camping or to the pool or on trips. I will be involved in parent organizations to build relationships with parents of my son or daughter's friends.
