Being a single mom

I was raised with a lot of love and understanding. This is the kind of mother I will be. Loving and understanding, but strict and protective when necessary.

I look forward to being involved in all of my child's activities. Sports or music, chess club or spelling bees, whatever my child wants to try and makes them happy. I will be goofy sometimes, dress up when its 'tea time' or play cars when its 'race day'. Read books every night, until we memorize every page. I dont sweat the small stuff. Sometimes things happen. Things are just things. I broke things when I was a child and there was no concern for the 'thing' just for me to make sure I was ok. I feel that same way.

I will be strict when I need to be. I understand that we all make mistakes and we learn from those mistakes. The little ones can be lessons learned, like, there really isnt a '5 second rule', put the garbage in the trash not on the floor. But the big things will need to be taught. How to be safe is the most important lesson a parent teaches. Strangers arent always friends, check with me first. Holding hands in the grocery store so we dont get lost, No crossing the street without me, always wear our helmets when we ride bikes, learning to swim so we can go to the pool or the beach.

And then, when it is time for school I will find a school and teachers that care deeply about the children and their education. I want my son or daughter to have friends and go to birthday parties have playdates and be in activities with their friends. I will be involved in school functions and field trips to the botanical garden, or just helping in the classroom. Working from home will allow me the flexibility to do these things.

I want my son or daughter to experience travel and fun vacations with family. Going to a national monument or to the beach or to the mountains to see snow.

I think relationships are built on honesty. I will always be honest with my soon to be son or daughter and with those in our lives. They will know as much about you as you wish to share.

I always thought I would get married and start a family at some point. Building my family through adoption was part of that plan. I have had a couple of relationships that were on that track but did not get to the finish line.
I will encourage my child to build relationships with friends, to make friends and do things with them. Have sleep overs, invite friends with us for camping or to the pool or on trips. I will be involved in parent organizations to build relationships with parents of my son or daughter's friends.

How do I feel about education?
I am all for it. I am living proof that an education is important. I will find the best schools with caring teachers and be involved every step of the way. I will help with homework every night. Praise when they do well, encourage and teach when they struggle.
I have an Associates Degree in a medical field. My degree gave me a skill in a field that will always be available to me, it gives me options. We always have more options when we have an education.

Working in the hospital gave me the knowledge to begin my career with my current company. We have a physician reporting and database program for cardiology departments. It is a very robust program with lots of options and extras available. I work for a big company and have good job security. I enjoy teaching Physicians and hospital staff how to use our programs.

I will encourage my future son or daughter to continue with their education.

Fitting together

Our level of communication is completely up to you. You are always going to be a part of my family, you have given me the gift of a child and a family, for that I will always be grateful and humbled.

If an open or semi open adoption is the plan you have for your child I will do everything I can to keep you included and up to date on the going's on. Direct communication or communcation through the agency, it is up to you.

If a closed adoption is your choice. I will respect your decision. Updates will always be sent to the agency.

About my family

I have wonderfully supportive family and friends. I include friends in my 'family' post because my close friends seem more like family to me. I am godmother to two of my best friend's three children and have loved being with them and playing the Wii with them. The 'fishing game' with her youngest daughter, and racing with her son. Playing with them lets me be silly and see things through their eyes. I will eventually adopt two children so they can grow up together.

I have one brother. He is 11months younger than I am (Mom said we were quite a handful). I am convinced it was my brother that was the handful and, of course, I am the levelheaded one. We get along well he lives in Minnesota and we see him and talk to him often. Growing up we had the typical brother-sister relationship but now we are friends as well as siblings.

My childhood was happy and my parents were understanding and fun. Strict when they needed to be, but always fair. I will be that kind of parent. We always talk about trips we took, things we did and my happiest memories are of things we did as a family. Car trips to Mt Rushmore, or camping at the lake. Just being together and having fun.

My mom is the oldest of 5 children. I am close to my Aunts, Uncle and cousins even though they are far away. We visit them at least once a year. They are supporting me 100% and cannot wait to meet the next member of our family.

My friends:
I have a great network of friends supporting me. Some have also adopted and have helped me with this journey. We spend alot of our time together at the pool, playing with the kids, having cookouts together and taking day trips together.

These are my friends and family. I support them and they support me.
